Shared Ownership Week, running from 15th-21st September, is a national awareness campaign which promotes Shared Ownership, a scheme that allows purchasers to buy a share in a property, rather than buying outright.

First introduced in 1980, Shared Ownership provides an alternative route for first-time buyers, or those who have sold their home, to get on the property ladder by purchasing a share, usually between 25% and 75%. Purchasers are then given the opportunity to increase the share they own until they own the property outright, this is known as ‘staircasing’.

Shared Ownership Week is an annual event which brings together housing associations and providers from all across the Capital as they aim to provide unbiased information about the scheme, highlighting its benefits for first time buyers. During this seven day awareness campaign, prospective buyers will receive advice from people who have already been through the process, as well as industry experts.

As one of the largest providers of Shared Ownership, L&Q will be at the forefront of this campaign, ensuring that prospective buyers are receiving the most up to date and accurate information available. They’ll also be leading the way with an industry first SKY TV commercial aimed at raising awareness, while also appearing in popular supplements such as The Metro, Timeout and The Evening Standard.

What’s more, L&Q will also be hosting a live Q&A with industry professionals during Shared Ownership Week to answer all of those burning questions; you can join in on Twitter using the handle @LQPricedIn and #GetPricedIn between 1-2pm on Wednesday 21st September.

If you prefer to ask your questions in person, L&Q will also be attending the London Home Show at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in Westminster on Saturday 17th September. You can register for the home show here; please note that tickets are free but spaces are limited.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a single professional looking to purchase somewhere closer to work, a young couple wanting to settle in to your first love nest, a growing family who are in desperate need of a bigger place, or a mature buyer looking to downsize. No matter who you are, Shared Ownership could help you get on the property ladder.
