L&Q Launches Walk To School Initiative
On Monday 18th May L&Q will launch Walk To School Week, partnering with local schools, pupils, and parents across the capital to encourage kids and their parents to swap four wheels for two feet.
Launched nationwide by Living Streets – a UK charity working across the country to improve our streets and create safe and attractive spaces to live, work, shop and play – the annual initiative campaigns for increased road safety around schools whilst encouraging a healthier lifestyle amongst children.
As one of London’s leading developers, L&Q is responsible for providing a significant share of the capital’s affordable housing and recently announced plans to increase their output of homes to 5,000 a year. This equates to an investment of £12bn over the next 10 years. Committed to shaping healthier, happier neighbourhoods L&Q have partnered with schools and parents across London, providing pupils with specially created high visibility jackets.
Sophie Browne, Reception teacher at Henry Fawcett Primary School commented on the importance of the initiative: “We’re delighted to partner with L&Q this year for Walk To School Week. The initiative is crucial in cities such as London where students face busy roads every day on their journey to school. It is therefore important to not only teach our children about road safety, but also our drivers. With the support of L&Q we hope this initiative will do just that.”
Currently providing affordable homes in areas such as Lewisham, Newham, Enfield, Hackney, Southwark, Greenwich, and Epping, L&Q is committed to helping more of London’s first time buyers onto the property ladder thorough their Shared Ownership programme.
Cathy Lloyd, Sales Director from L&Q comments: “Part of L&Q’s commitment to providing new homes is also helping establish new, safer neighbourhoods. In the last year alone L&Q has helped hundreds of first time buyers on to the housing ladder in their neighbourhood. This year, we are proud to promote the Walk To School initiative and help support schools across London to get more kids walking every day.”
